“The Post-Pandemic Recovery of European Tourism through Culture, Heritage, and Creativity” was the theme of the international conference held online on October 22, 2020, organized by the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN), in which the Institute of Education, Heritage, and Tourism (IETT) also took part as a member of this network.
Chaired by Mr. Manos Vougioukas, Secretary-General of ECTN, the conference featured presentations during various sessions by Ms. Anne Grady, representative of the European Commission DG EAC, Ms. Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, representative of Europa Nostra, Iulia Niculica from the European Travel Commission (ETC), NECSTouR, Helena Vičič from Interpret Europe, and others.
The event concluded with the awards ceremony for the “Cultural Tourism Destination of Sustainable Development 2020.” Awards were presented in several categories, including “Industrial Heritage Tourism,” “Maritime, Coastal, and Waterway Heritage,” “Special Jury Award,” among others.
The conference ended with closing remarks from Mr. Raitis Sijāts, President of ECTN, and Mr. Piet Jaspaert, Chair of the Jury.
ECTN is the only network across Europe dedicated to promoting the developmental values of cultural tourism, aiming to support the dissemination of research, cooperation among different nationalities, the improvement of cultural tourism, the exchange of experiences, and the creation of new tools and approaches.
